Here are 10 important things that you need to know about the fault line that's also known to traverse Quezon City, Marikina City, Makati City, Taguig and Muntinlupa in Metro Manila:
2. It's 100 kilometers in total length.
3. The last major quake known to have been generated by the fault line was 359 years ago in 1658.
4. It is believed to generate big quakes every 400 to 600 years.
5. The affected areas are due for a big quake 41 years from now. However, one can happen anytime soon.
6. Phivolcs warned that buildings should not be built on top of active faults or within a 5-meter buffer zone on either side of the fault.
7. Buildings that violate this rule are likely to collapse due to the rupturing of the ground when the fault line moves again.
8. The estimated death toll in Metro Manila due to the earthquake can be around 33,500 with at least 100,000 injured.
9. In Pasig City, the fault line is most prominent at Canley Road, smack dab where the road goes down on a steep level behind the structure of Phoenix Heights and through Victoria Court.
10. The West Valley Fault can possibly generate a magnitude 7.2 earthquake.
